Sometimes things get challenging or they are not like we thought they were about to be. Sometimes we make projections of how it is going to be, how to climb this specific section of the wall, or with the idealistic difficulty of the pitch. Then, we fail to grab the grip, or the sequence is harder than expected, we can`t find a place for our fingers or any sort of troubles come out in our life, like we can’t deal with someone for some reason or we have the feeling of everything going wrong in our life.
Every situation can be different and unique, but some tools can be useful in most of them. I would like to write about a couple of steps that can help:
Take some time before making a move
When this kind of situations arise, just take some time to calm down and rethink. You can simply take a deep breath if you are in the middle of the wall, or rest for a while if the situation allows you to. The main point is to take some time and perspective to allow yourself to reshape your ideas, reset the way you see yourself, the challenge and your possibilities. If you failed before or just you were not able to deal with the situation in a satisfactory way, probably you were doing something wrong. Taking some time to think about it can help a lot in order to make another strategy and prevent you to repeat the same wrong pattern again.
Make a conscious decision
Once you took your time and analyzed the new situation and the new you with a critical mind, leaving behind what is not going to help, you can start thinking about the next move. The previous “time taking” strategy allows us to calm our mind and get ready to make a clear decision. And setting us ready for the action.
It is the only way to make good choices. If you make your decisions when you are full with turbulent emotions (like those you have after failing at something or our ego got hurt for some reason), it is probably going to lead you to repeat the same old patterns and the same mistakes again and again.
